Saw and hand tool advice for tradespeople in training

One of the most common mistakes apprentices and recently qualified traders make is the  misuse of equipment, or even simply being unaware of the best tool or blade for a specific application.  As a pledge to support the future of the industry, saw blade and hand tool specialist Starrett has committed to delivering educational demonstrations to tradespeople in training.  The demonstrations are presented by Starrett’s team of technical experts and are currently being scheduled at colleges and training organisations across the country.

The objective of these visits is to provide apprentices and students with valuable trade insight to complement their academic studies and work placements and begin their careers with a solid understanding of the variety of tool options open to them.  Alongside presentations from Starrett’s technical support team, the visits provide an opportunity for apprentices and students to practice using the tools themselves – encouraged by some healthy competition with the chance to win free Starrett tools!  As well as the practical demonstrations, Starrett’s experts also present a lecture about how to use the range of Starrett tools in a correct, safe and effective way.

“By calling in industry experts, manufacturers and product suppliers, we can ensure our students understand how to use tools and equipment in the safest and most effective way,” explained Chris Walling, work-based assessor of the apprenticeship department at Llandrillo College in North Wales, a recent recipient of a Starrett demonstration visit.  “For our students and apprentices there is no better way to gain product knowledge than to take the advice of the manufacturers themselves.”

Starrett has been supplying  power tool accessories and hand tools to contractors and tradespeople for over 130 years and the company’s range includes thousands of robust and durable products.  For apprentices, students and newly qualified traders, Starrett’s range provides a reliable and affordable choice for their first set of tools.

“Meeting apprentices and recently qualified traders and introducing them to Starrett’s product range is always a pleasure,” stated John Cove, Marketing Manager at Starrett. “These tradesmen are working towards careers where safety and precision is paramount and the interactive nature of the demonstration day ensures students know the correct ways to use Starrett’s tools, how to choose the best power tool accessory for their application, and how to get the best out of them.”

Availability is limited, but Starrett actively welcomes requests for demonstration visits to colleges and training organisations around the country.
