Tell us a bit about you & your family?
I’m a Yorkshire man that loves the countryside and I previously lived in Holmfirth where Last of the Summer Wine was filmed, but recently moved to Penistone. I have renovated several houses and have a shed full of tools to my wife’s pleasure! I am into sport and competed in athletics and football at an amateur level in
my youth. On a weekend, I can be found on my road bike or playing golf. My other love is technology and sadly I do enjoy a spreadsheet. In terms of family, I have a small family and I am just getting my ‘first-time’ parent badge with a 7 month old daughter named Freya. I will be asking you all as new colleagues for parenting advice.
Your previous role and responsibility?
For the last 7 months I have been Head of Sales for Toolstream UK representing their portfolio of brands. This involved leading a team of National Account Managers and an Internal Sales division. Previously, I worked as the National Sales Manager for two years managing an Area Sales Team. I have a wide customer contact base from National Accounts, Merchants and Independents across a variety of sectors and I am excited to explore the opportunities for the Starrett brand.
What attracted you to Starrett?
The Starrett brand name was the main attraction! I know the brand from the Electrical Wholesale market. Premium brands that have a reputation for quality are invaluable within the construction and industrial markets. The attraction of the brand name combined with the exciting trajectory the business is on of modernisation and product diversification is a challenge I look forward to.
What do you believe is the biggest opportunity for Starrett?
Short term, I see potential within the PTA market. This is a growth market as power tools continue to evolve and we need to ensure Starrett is taking market share. This is a twofold opportunity by selling existing customers a wider portfolio of products and onboarding new customers. We also need to continue to develop the digital offering to ensure we are easy to do business with and customers have the information to access the Starrett brand easily. The trend of tool sales moving from instore to online will only continue. Longer term, the opportunity to sell product ranges which exist within the Starrett group into the UK market is another significant opportunity.

I beat the Olympic medallist Brownlee brothers in a running race, albeit it was 17 years ago ????!
